Aftercare Instructions
Bandage Day 1 (First 12 - 24 hours)
Leave the clear bandage/second skin on for 12 - 24 hours; blood and fluid inside of the bandage is perfectly normal. This bandage is water resistant, which makes it easy to shower with, do NOT scrub the bandage with a loofa or any type of sponge. Do not fully submerge & soak (bath or swimming). Please be sure to avoid the gym as it will cause excess sweat to build up and the bandage may fall off.
Second Bandage (24 hours - 6 Days) You may be given a second application of second skin if so. Keep this second bandage on for 3-6 days – the full six days being ideal. If the skin appears irritated, there is fluid buildup, or the bandage is coming off, it's okay to remove the bandage sooner rather than later. and follow the below instructions.
Removal of Bandage
After 12 - 24 hours post tattoo appointment, please read the following closely and use great care to ensure proper healing. When you remove the bandage take it off in a warm shower. Wash your body and hair first, avoiding the immediate area of the tattoo bandage and rinse. Bring your unscented antibacterial soap (in a pump bottle ONLY) into the shower. I reccomend Dial gold if you can find it. Use this on your hands to wash away any excess soaps/shampoos. As you remove your bandage please take care to start from the top of the bandaged area and get a portion of the film up. Slowly start pealing this off letting warm water run over top to ease the adhesive off of your skin. Immediately after removing your bandage wash your new tattoo well with warm water and the antibacterial soap. You don’t want to feel any sticky residue left over. After you step out of the shower please be sure to NOT dry your tattoo off with your normal body towel, only use a few clean paper towels in a gentle tapping/pressing motion onto the fresh tattooed area.
Week 1 (Day 2 - 7) with no second bandage application
For the next few days while your tattoo is still very fresh you are just going to keep your tattoo clean and dry. Wash it up to twice a day with the same unscented antibacterial soap. Do not touch your tattoo with dirty hands! You will notice your tattoo has likely become very dry and itchy, maybe a little flakey. You can now start moisturizing once or twice a day lightly with unscented water based lotion (Lubriderm is great). Avoid itching your tattooed area, when an itching sensation comes up please tap/lightly slap the area. Sounds crazy but it works wonders with no ill effects to your skin.
Week 2 (Day 8 - 14)
Your fresh tattooed area is now starting to look shiny and the last flakes are start to disappear and go away. Your skin is still very fragile so please still do take care of scratching or being scratched by your kids or animals. Continue using lotion 1 - 2 times a day forever, this will keep your skin very healthy and it will keep your tattoo vibrant. Always avoid sun exposure without a proper SPF 65+ or higher. After the 2nd week (14 day mark) you can start swimming and taking baths again.
